Completed optometric education at City University London in 1990, becoming a member of the British College of optometrist in 1991 and achieving a Fellowship of the College of optometrists by examination in 1994. Worked as an optometrist in both private practice and hospital-based specialist contact lens practice. Owner Director and principal optometrist in a specialist Optometric practice Barnard Levit Ltd, focusing on the provision of general and specialist optometric examinations and eye care.
2011 started a Professional Doctorate research, in the field of medical contact lenses. Professional doctorate in optometry was awarded in 2019.
Professional interests include routine provision of speciality contact lens management to patients with complex optical problems such as irregular corneae due to corneal pathology, post refractive surgery and trauma.
In 2003, invented and developed a unique contact lens design and fitting system for Keratoconus (ALK™ system), which is manufactured by a major international contact lens manufacturer. These lenses are routinely used in the management of corneal ectatic disorders in the UK and abroad. Consulted and acted as a key opinion leader to IRISS medical technologies, Ultravision CLPL, Paragon, Bausch and Lomb and Menicon.
Have been engaged in optometric medico legal expert witness work since 2013, and regularly provide optometric examinations and reports in the areas of general optometry, refractive surgery, ocular pathology, contact lens practice, refraction and binocular vision.
