Mrs Madgula is a Bond Solon trained expert witness. She is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and a Glaucoma Specialist at the Royal Bolton Hospital, Bolton. She was previously the Glaucoma lead at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS foundation Trust between 2017-25 where she in transformed the service and pioneered shared care Glaucoma at Preston. She received national recognition for this work by being selected as a finalist for the Hospital Services Journal Awards (HSJ awards) in 2022. She has a cumulative 26 years of experience in ophthalmology having trained in India followed by the UK. She completed her specialist ophthalmology training at Liverpool followed by a glaucoma fellowship at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. She has excellent verbal and written communication skills and shares a good rapport with patients and members of her team.
She has a keen interest in the field of medical education, training and assessment and was the first trainee in the UK to be selected as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth), London. She has worked as a PLAB examiner for the GMC and now works for the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow examining internationally and for the Royal College Of Ophthalmologists, London examining nationally. She takes an active interest in teaching and training medical students, optometrists and junior ophthalmology surgeons and was awarded the role of Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Manchester and Edge Hill University.
She received the Dorey Lister award for her charity work in India. She has presented her work in several national and international meetings and published in various peer reviewed indexed journals. She has an interest in cataracts and complex adult glaucoma. She performs Glaucoma surgeries like Trabeculectomy, Glaucoma Drainage (Tube) surgery, Glaucoma lasers (YAG Peripheral Iridotomy, SLT) and cataract surgery standalone or with Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery or MIGS such as Istent, Hydrus, OMNI. She is also fluent in a few Indian languages like Urdu/ Hindi, Bengali and Tamil.
